Changing DNS Settings

Changing your DNS settings has been known to fix network related issues when patching the client. Give these steps a try and if it does not fix your issue you can go back to automatic settings.

You can change your DNS Settings by doing the following:

Windows Vista

1. Go to the Start Menu and choose Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel, click "Network and Sharing Center."
3. In the Network and Sharing Center, look at the left side of the window. You should see a list of tasks. Select "Manage network connections."
4. This step will slightly vary, however locate the network connection in this window that you're using. For a wired connection, look for "Local Area Connection". If you are using a wireless connection it should be something like "Wireless Network Connection."
5. Right-click on the connection you're using and choose "Properties."
6. In the window that pops up, click on "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click the "Properties" button.
7. In this window, click the radio button that says "Use the following DNS addresses:."
8. In the Primary DNS field, fill in the following IP address: 208.67.222.222
9. In the Secondary DNS field, fill in the following IP address: 208.67.220.220
10. Click OK, and then click Close.

Windows 7, 8, and 10 (x86/x64)

1. Go to the Start Menu and choose Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel, click "View network status and tasks."
3. In the Network and Sharing Center, look at the left side of the window. You should see a list of tasks. Select "Change adapter settings."
4. This step will slightly vary, however locate the network connection in this window that you're using. For a wired connection, look for "Local Area Connection". If you are using a wireless connection it should be something like "Wireless Network Connection."
5. Right-click on the connection you're using and choose "Properties."
6. In the window that pops up, click on "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click the "Properties" button.
7. In this window, click the radio button that says "Use the following DNS addresses:."
8. In the Primary DNS field, fill in the following IP address: 208.67.222.222
9. In the Secondary DNS field, fill in the following IP address: 208.67.220.220
10. Click OK, and then click Close.

If you can't connect to the internet after doing this, try restarting your computer. If that still doesn't work, go back into the window where you specified the DNS servers and change the radio button back to "Obtain DNS address automatically".
