Optimizing System Resources

You can see an overview of your system's resources by opening the Windows Task Manager.
You can open the Task Manager by pressing the Ctrl - Alt - Del keys simultaneously.
Depending on your version of Windows, this will either take you directly to the Task Manager or to a menu that will show the Task Manager as a selectable option. In the Task Manager window, click on the Performance tab to see an overview of your system's CPU usage as well as the total memory usage.
If your CPU usage appears to consistently be over 50% or your system's available memory is low, then this indicates that you will need to free up resources before playing the game.

How to disable all non-essential startup items and services that are running in the background

  1. Run System Configuration utility by pressing the Windows Key+ R key simultaneously
  2. In the Run window that appears, type msconfig and click OK
  3. In the System Configuration window, click on the Startup tab 
  4. Click the Disable all button, and then click on the Services tab 
  5. Click on the checkbox next to Hide all Microsoft services, and this will remove all of the Microsoft Services from the Services list. (PLEASE NOTE you will need to re-enable any biometric security features before exiting this window) 
  6. Click on the Disable All button, and then click OK. You will then need to reboot your computer

Is there another way to optimize my system performance?

Players can manually adjust the system's page file to a fixed size. By default, Windows will handle the size of your system's paging file and will dynamically increase or decrease it as needed. However, this can have an adverse effect on your system's performance when running a resource-intensive application such as a game.

How to manually set the size of your system's paging file:

Windows XP

  1. Click on the Start button and right-click on My Computer
  2. Click on Properties on the menu that appears which opens System Properties
  3. Click on the Advanced tab.
  4. Click on the Settings button under Performance.
  5. Click on the Advanced tab.
  6. Click on the Change button under Virtual Memory.
  7. Select a Custom size.
  8. Set the Initial Size to 1.5 times your system's total memory.
  9. Set the Maximum size to 2 times your system's total memory.
  10. Click the Set button.
  11. Click OK and you will be prompted to restart your computer

Windows Vista, 7, 8, & 10

  1. Click on the Start button and right-click on 'Computer'
  2. Click on Properties on the menu that appears, which will open the System window
  3. Click on Advanced system settings.
  4. Click on the Advanced tab.
  5. Click the Performance button.
  6. In Performance Options, Click on the Advanced tab.
  7. Click the Change button under Virtual memory.
  8. Uncheck the box next to Automatically manage paging file size for all drives
  9. Select a Custom size.
  10. Set the Initial Size to 1.5 times your system's total memory.
  11. Set the Maximum size to 2 times your system's total memory.
  12. Click the Set button.
  13. Click OK and you will be prompted to restart your computer.
