Resolving Lag and Disconnect Issues

Minimum Requirements

The first thing to check is to ensure that your system meets or exceeds Minimum System Requirements. If you're having frame rate issues, you'll need to make sure that your system meets or exceeds the minimum requirements. If your system just meets or barely exceeds the minimum requirements, then it is possible that your video settings in the game may be set too high. You can correct this by adjusting the video settings game to medium or minimum.

Ending Background Programs and Services

Lag can be caused by too many system resources being used by other background programs that are running in the background while you play the game. Please follow the steps here to remove non-essential background programs and services.
If you are still experiencing latency or disconnects after following the previous instructions, then your network connection may be the cause of the problem.

Direct Connect to Modem

In certain cases, not connecting directly to your modem can cause latency issues when attempting to play the game. Please follow the steps here to directly connect to your modem.
If connecting your system directly to the cable or DSL modem fixes the problem, or if you are using a hybrid router/modem that was supplied by your Internet Service Provider, then you may need to update the router's firmware. Below are links to popular router manufacturers where you can find instructions on how to update your firmware:

For hybrid router/modems, you may need to contact your Internet Service Provider for instructions on obtaining the latest firmware for your device.
If your computer uses a wireless connection to your router, it is recommended that you try connecting your system to the router or modem with an Ethernet cable to see if this corrects the problem. When doing this, please be sure to temporarily disable your wireless connection on your system to ensure that you are only using the wired connection.

Powercycling Modem

Many issues with disconnecting or lag can be resolved by doing a full power cycle of your modem and router:

  1. Turn off your computer. When it has shut down completely, proceed to the next step.
  2. If you have a router, remove the power cable. Wait thirty seconds.
  3. Next, remove the power cable from the modem (either at the wall or at the modem). Wait thirty seconds.
  4. Plug your modem back in.
  5. Plug your router back in.
  6. Turn your computer back on. Please try logging back into the game and see if your issue has been resolved.
